Invisible at first sight, I've learned to live with this “little handicap”. I had a normal schooling, and I do a lot of sport and extra-professional activities. As soon as I joined CNES, I was granted RQTH recognition.
This enabled me to obtain funding to buy specific audio equipment. I currently have Bluetooth earpieces compatible with my hearing aids. Without this technical aid, I'd have trouble hearing the person I'm talking to on the phone. Everything would become more complex on a daily basis.
The RQTH also enables me to benefit from certain instantaneous transcription software such as Ava. The paid version, which is more accurate than the free version, opens the door to videoconferencing, audioconferencing and group telephone conversions.
With more than 5 participants, it's difficult to know who's speaking when you don't have this type of transcription. Sometimes, the microphones are of poor quality and you're afraid of losing the thread of the discussion. The application is reassuring: I don't have to keep my eyes glued to the screen at all times to follow the discussion. Lip-reading is also an important tool for me.
