How to Sign “Soup” in Sign Language

Whether it’s a sick day or a cozy night in, soup is great for comfort. With this sign you can order any soup, from chicken noodle to cioppino.

Signing “Soup”

  1. Hand shape: Start with your dominant hand in a “closed-2” handshape. Form your non-dominant hand into a “close-5” handshape, palm up.
  2. Hand location: Bring your hands in front of your body at about chest level.
  3. Movement: Bring your dominant hand towards your non-dominant hand, as if using the spoon to shovel soup out of the bowl.
  4. Facial expression: Keep a neutral facial expression.
