How to Sign “Pie” in Sign Language

In the United States, apple pie is often associated with American culture, leading to the phrase "as American as apple pie." However, apple pie recipes originated in England and were brought to America by early settlers.

Signing “Pie”

  1. Hand shape: Start with your hands in a “closed-5” handshape. Your non-dominant palm should be facing up, while your dominant hand starts palm facing in the non-dominant direction, pinky on top of your non-dominant hand.
  2. Hand location: Bring your hands in front of your body at about chest level.
  3. Movement: Move your dominant hand twice across your non-dominant palm, as if slicing a piece fo pie. on your hand.
  4. Facial expression: Keep a neutral facial expression.
