How to Sign “Cupcake” in Sign Language

Did you know the first mention of cupcakes dates back to 1796 in Amelia Simmons' cookbook "American Cookery," where they were referred to as "a cake to be baked in small cups." This innovative approach revolutionized baking by introducing individual-sized treats.

Signing “Cupcake”

  1. Hand shape: Start with your dominant hand in an open “bent-5” handshape. Form your non-dominant into an “S” with your palm downard.
  2. Hand location: Bring your hands in front of your body at about chest level. Place your dominant hand-palm down onto your non-dominant hand.
  3. Movement: First fingerspell “C-U-P.” Then tap your dominant hand against your non-dominant hand twice.
  4. Facial expression: Keep a neutral facial expression.
