How to Sign “Cake” in Sign Language

Imagine you're at a birthday party or a celebration at work, and there's a beautiful dessert on display. Being able to sign "cake" in ASL can make these moments more inclusive, ensuring that everyone is part of the conversation.

Signing “Cake”

  1. Hand shape: Start with your dominant hand in an open “bent-5” handshape. Form your non-dominant into an “S” with your palm downard.
  2. Hand location: Bring your hands in front of your body at about chest level. Place your dominant hand-palm down onto your non-dominant hand.
  3. Movement: Tap your dominant hand against your non-dominant hand twice.
  4. Facial expression: Keep a neutral facial expression.
